What Content to Include on Your Creative Mini-Site
Illustrator, graphic designer, photographer: what to feature on your page, and in what order.
Start with Images
An art director visiting your page makes decisions in seconds. It's not your text that sways the choice; it's your visuals. Place them at the top, and showcase the three pieces that most closely represent what you want to be commissioned for.
Select Rather Than Accumulate
A gallery of forty images dilutes your style. Between twelve and twenty visuals is enough, all of the same caliber. A portfolio is judged by its weakest piece, not its volume — remove anything that no longer reflects you.
Clearly State What You Do
"Illustrator" is vague. "Children's illustrator, book and press, digital technique" allows a publisher to know in one line if they should write to you. Name your specialty, your techniques, and your industries.
Make Contact Easy
The contact form should be easy to find. Specify if you are available, how quickly you respond, and what types of projects interest you. Many messages are never sent out of uncertainty about whether they would be a bother.
What Can Wait
A detailed biography, a list of exhibitions, mentions of qualifications: useful, but should be at the bottom of the page. No one commissions an illustration because of a diploma.
